Farewell message of Burak Özügergin, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye
"I
am about to complete my duty as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to
the Hellenic Republic. I assumed this exciting and honorable office on1
December 2018.
Despite the covid-19 pandemic, coupled with various challenges in our neighborhood, we worked intensively together with my Embassy colleagues to move Turkish-Greek relations forward in every field, and to improve the ties between the peoples of the two countries. I want to thank the Greek authorities for their cooperation.
My
visits to the various parts of Greece provided a wonderful opportunity to meet
and embrace the friendly Greek people. I was always welcomed warmly, and I want
to thank the hospitable Greeks for that.
No
matter how “heavy” were the subjects of our conversations, the genuine spirit
of my contacts with the Greek officials, academics, businessmen, journalists
and many others always reminded me that what we share in common is actually
more than what separates us.
This
year, we observe the Centennial the Turkish Republic as well as the signing of
the Treaty of Lausanne, one of the guiding documents of modern Turkish-Greek
relations. Just like a hundred years ago, the geography and global
circumstances of the day make the cooperation between our countries essential.
In any case, Turkish-Greek relations have a healthy number of communication
channels and mechanisms, as well as people-to-people ties, trade relations and
the memories of the helping hands extended to each other in the most difficult
times. We have enough assets for a common future to be built upon, as long as
there is a common will, mutual respect and a genuine dialogue – always based on
international law - between the two sides of the Aegean Sea.
With
these sentiments and thoughts, I greet you all, and wish you health, happiness
and prosperity.
Farewell!"
